FAQ

Every piece of Tastic Plastics is not cosmetically perfect. It may have an occasional dark speck in the plastic, or a whitish streak. If this is cosmetically objectionable, plan on painting or covering it.

Some edges are straighter than others. The lengthwise edges are machined edges, but the ends are cut and may be a little rough or uneven. You may need to trim or sand the end if you want it perfectly straight and smooth.

Tastic Plastics are durable and will last indefinitely, but the duct will give up some of its springy resilience after a few years of service. In most applications, repeated flexing is not required, so some loss of spring is inconsequential.

Tastic Plastics have a fire resistant rating of UL94-V-0 which means it will not sustain burning and if burnt to the point of dripping the drips do not carry flame. This makes it safe to use in plenum airspaces. But it should not be used in a plenum air space to contain non-plenum rated materials. For that you need a metal UL approved plenum housing.

When used as conduit, raceway or riser, you can mix low-voltage and power cords, but you can’t put electrical service wiring in it. Power cords must be fully protected like SJ cords and extension cords. Tastic is not NRTL or UL rated.

It is possible to heat and bend the plank, but its stiffness requires more heat and bends may be a little harder to get precise. There is a danger of overheating which can cause scorching. When cooled it will hold the shape rigidly. For heating, bending, and molding you are better off using the duct.

Tastic Plastics are very light. When shipping long lengths the shipper will likely calculate the cost by size, not weight, called “dimensional” weight. So if you are paying shipping rates by the box and not by the weight, consider ordering multiple pieces in one box, or ordering shorter lengths.

PVC should never be cut by laser. That creates dangerous corrosive vapors.

Tastic Plastics is food safe, but do not microwave or cook in it. It is not recommended for long-term storage of food that has oils as any oils in food can leach  plastic if given enough time.

California Proposition 65 lists some PVC additives as potentially toxic and prohibits making children’s toys from it.

Tastic Plastics is patented with both a utility patent and a design patent. Details on request.
